Travel Diary: San Diego

Last year (see what I did there) I mentioned that the BF and I took a weekend getaway to San Diego. All I wanted for Christmas was a few days out of LA with him - I'm very big on "experience" gifts vs. typical gift gifts. So off to SD we went! If you're planning to take a trip to the whale's vajayjay (please tell me you've seen Anchorman?!), here are a few of my don't miss beach spots and places to eat:

Forget La Jolla Cove, Neptune Park/La Jolla Strand Park is where it's at! The rock sediments allow for a little climbing, cave exploration and incredible pics. We stumbled upon this gem on our way up to La Jolla Cove and ended up spending an hour or so exploring. There were a few beach goers and people climbing but it wasn't nearly as crowded as other beach spots in La Jolla.  I can't even begin to tell you how magical it was! Find the exact location on my geo-tagged Instagram.

Another must-see coastal spot is Sunset Cliffs. The idea is to go at sunset - keep in mind it's a big tourist spot - but it's worth it! You just get such a pure view of the ocean and sunset. Definitely pack a blanket and sweatshirt because as that sun starts to set it gets REALLY chilly! We may or may not have sat in our car for part of it.

It's no secret that I'm a beach lover and it's so nice that the BF loves it just as much as I do. Sometimes on the weekend we just drive up the coast! On Saturday I wore a free people pullover; it's a perfect chunky knit sweater for cool beach days.

Oh boy did we eat. Pretty sure all we did was eat and beach. For breakfast definitely check out Hash House A Go Go for your typical spread, however, what's not so typical are the portions. We're talking HUGE! The BF and I joked that three people could probably share one entree. I had a scramble and he had pancakes, both delicious. We were seriously tempted by the chicken and waffles though!

If you're looking for a sweet little snack and happen to love cookies and ice cream you must go to Baked Bear. Think Diddy Riese but with waffles and brownies as sandwich options. Yes, I went there.

Going casual for dinner? Basic has the most delicious pizzas and cocktails. It's a great spot with high ceilings and industrial fans. If you're looking for a nicer spot with a laid back vibe Great Maple is BEYOND. It has an Ace Hotel, Palm Springs feel with incredible farm to table fare. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Have a great weekend!
