California Dreaming Nursery For Our Baby Girl

Finishing the nursery made this whole “we’re having a baby thing” feel very real. My pregnancy has been really smooth (thank goodness!) to the point that somedays I forget I’m pregnant. Yes, we’ve slowly been prepping: doing all the classes, reading the books, etc. but it wasn’t until we finished her room that I was like “holy moly, there’s a baby coming soon!” So excited, so nervous… all the feels!

My vision for baby girl’s nursery was a California Dreaming vibe: a minimal boho style with neutral tones, a few pops of mint & pink, and lots of textures. The idea really came about from the Wilder California prints + mint dresser I re-purposed from my old office and grew from there. Of course, there was months of pinning different pieces to see what would go together and I’m so happy with how it turned out:

To be honest, I am super grateful that we had a totally blank slate to work with. Baby was one of the main reasons we bought our first home and she had a dedicated room by the time she was 3 months in utero. Like I mentioned above, from the day we moved in I started pinning like crazy and slowly starting buying pieces. ie: the beaded chandelier was a December sale purchase (and on backorder until April!!) before I even had any clue what kind of furniture was going to go in the room. Pretty much everything in the nursery is from Pottery Barn Kids, Target, Etsy, Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters. We’re still waiting on a few pieces like this GORGE Rattan Bookshelf from Etsy and the Olli Ella changing basket that are both on back order. I figure we’ll do an updated post when those arrive and give you the 411 on how the nursery is actually working out in real life!

We went with the West Elm x PBK Mid-Century Convertible Crib and PBK Mid-Century Extra Wide Dresser because they can grow with her. The crib can be lowered even further and then converted to a toddler bed in a few years. I also love that the we can remove the topper on the dresser so that she can use it for years and years.

I nested hard and organized both dressers with dividers from the Container Store. Life in Jeneral’s Nursery Organizing guide was a life saver with tips on how to arrange drawers, labels, and all of the goodies that come with prepping for baby. For the most part I organized in 3 month increments since she’ll grow so quickly. With file folding we have tons of extra space; room for all those toys that I know will start trickling in soon.

Initially I wanted to go with a very chic rocker but after talking with a few mamas SO many suggest getting a recliner/glider combo for all of those late nights. Although baby isn’t here yet, I can tell you I’m so glad we did because the Carlo Swivel Glider and Recliner is beyond comfy. Andy and I have been taking turns working in that corner since we’ve been quarantined. The color / fabric combo we have is Chenille Tweed, Frost Gray and it looks very luxe in person - there’s a video of it on my Nursery highlight on IG.

I wish I knew where the wall hanging came from but it was a gift from our realtor - she totally got our vibe! There’s tons of beautiful ones on Etsy and I really like this one from World Market. And yes, that plant is REAL and it’s a rubber tree. She is THRIVING in that corner!

Hope you gals love the nursery as much as I do. It feels so good to finally see it come together and to share it with you. Eek, only 2 weeks left until we meet our baby girl! xx - Ash

P:S: the dress I’m wearing is from Shop Resa and is a dress I wore pre-pregnancy. I’ve found that all of her dresses have worn really well as the bump grows because of the way the fabric and design is, it allows for lots of room!
