Toiletry Bag Essentials - Everyday Pursuits

Is toiletry not the weirdest word? Hah! I didn’t know what else to write because beauty more implies makeup and I’m specifically talking about travel skin and haircare essentials. I’m on the GO a lot; by the end of this month I’ll have been in 4 countries. One thing I pride myself on is my ability to pack quickly and travel light. I’ve shared packing tips in the past: how-to pack hats + packing for a two week tropical vacay in a carry-on, but today I thought I’d touch on my toiletry bag essentials and share a few tips.

If you travel often, my number one tip is to always keep your toiletry bag packed. That way you only have to add a few additional items and go. You minimize the risk of forgetting the essentials like a razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.

Basics that should LIVE in your toiletry bag:

  • Toothbrush + Toothpaste

  • Facewash

  • Shampoo + Conditioner

  • Razor

  • Q Tips

Added products that I always keep stocked:

Flying is extremely DRYING on your skin and it can take days to recoup. If you have acne prone skin like myself the drying aspect typically causes my skin to OVER produce oil and lead post flight breakouts which are the WORST. To battle skin dehydration I combine two products:

Paula’s Choice Hyaluronic Acid Booster x Mara Face Oil

Before I leave to the airport I make sure my skin is clean and then I use a dime size of Paula’s Choice followed by a dime size of Mara Face oil. Honestly you can just slather them on, the more the merrier. You’ll definitely have a serious glow during your flight but I promise you’ll walk off the plane with moist, plump skin!

I love Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser because it’s exactly that: gentle. I keep it in my toiletry bag because it works for any environment: humid, dry, cold, beach, snow, etc. Plus, I trust that it won’t break me out.

Dr. Dennis Gross Universal Daily Peel is a product I use in my regular skincare routine about every 3 - 5 days. The little packets are perfectly travel sized and provide instant exfoliation, giving you beautiful glow when you wake up in the AM. When I travel I typically do on the 3rd night of my trip and then do as I would normally at home.

Garnier Micellar Water is the best for removing makeup, doing a quick face cleanse in the AM without having to soap up or use face wash, and is perfect after working out. I go through bottles of it at home and always have a travel size handy when I’m away.

If i’m traveling somewhere tropical where I know I’ll be in the sun and pool/ocean then Unite U- Hair Oil is a must. I put it on the ends of my hair after I shower to give them some love and even put on BEFORE I got in the water so that my hair doesn’t soak up nasty chlorine or salt water.

Dr G. Aqua Collagen Mask is a MUST in your life. It is the only mask I use and trust before big events (including my wedding). It hydrates and moisturizers and creates a perfect canvas to put makeup on. I swear my makeup looks and stay 10x better when I use this mask before hand.
